SEAGOING FISHERMAN LEAVES THE SEA TO BE WITH HIS TRUELOVE by Robert Hewett Sr

HIS TRUELOVE CALLS TO HIM

The Ship’s bow is bobbing like a cork in the sea,

waves slapping the hull in rhythm with

engines full power, heading for the shore.

I stand at the railing all eager and afraid

that my truelove will have gone away.

We’ve been out to sea for much too long,

catching and cleaning our fish haul each day

Our bays are full and we’re homeward bound

each of us hoping our love is still around.

I stand at the rail and look at the clouds,

gulls all around us chorusing loud.

They are so beautiful to my lonely eyes

seeing them means our harbor is nearby.

The Captain sounds the horn, three short blasts,

On the dock our loved ones are waving.

There in the forefront, a vision I see,

My truelove is screaming and waving to me.

I have been a fisherman for a long time

My father before me and his before him.

This is my last trip out into the sea

My truelove needs me and home I will be.

A family to cherish and bounce on my knee.

I’ll be a farmer, blacksmith, or cut trees,

Building a life that will include me,

Holding my truelove for eternity.

A lovely romantic poem to read Robert, wonderful imagery captures the imagination of love evolving as his truelove awaits for his return. A pleasure to read. Take care always, Lee

Robert, this is a stunning poem. It is a little freaky if you read my poem Confrontation With the Sea.. it is almost like your poem is a response.. Don't you love words? Fabulous!
